Remembering Exercises is centred on the forgotten archive of Alfred and Mehpare Heilbronn. The collection of two botanists contains various documents that reflect details from the Turkey’s social and political environment in the 19th and 20th century. Their reciprocal immigration story touches a critical historical fraction of two different geographies.
While the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Heilbronn is examining the archival documents before they have forgotten in video, the installation invites the audience to question the relation of history, space, and memory. Also, video reflects the healing aspects of collecting, archiving for the first generations of exile and the act of remembering of the second generation.
